Our demographic is largely based on the community that plays video games, as it is supposed to appeal them. The average gamer is 35 years old, and 74 percent are age 18 or older. Nearly half (44 percent) of gamers are female and women over the age of 18 represent a significantly greater portion of the game-playing population (33 percent) than boys age 18 or younger (15 percent).
Based on this, our target demographic will be unisex, leaning towards male. This means a diverse range of characters and interviewees in both terms of gender and race. The age of the demographic will largely be young adults (18+) but with no content that would restrict or turn minors away from seeing the film. 70 percent of our questionnaire responders were between 13-18 years old, and so this will definitely gear our audience demographic to the lower end of the age spectrum, meaning our target demographic will be 16-22. The important thing about this demographic is that they are all still school going. The demographic that plays video games is usually middle to upper class due to affordability of the luxury. Our demographic will mainly be middle class. Nationality and race will be non-specific, but will probably be geared more towards white audiences than anyone else. This, however, should not be reflected in our film.
The demographic will be reflected through our use of a white teenage male as a main character, with the rest of the cast being an unspecified mix of race and genders. This will attempt to bring diversity to our short film and reflect the diversity of the gaming audience. All characters will be teenaged, and attending secondary school.
